2017 ‘The Hill Block’ Reserve Cabernet Magnum

Only made in exceptional vintages, this release of 'The Hill Block' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the Clare Valley’s best varieties, and when it reaches its greatest potential, it rivals Riesling. The cooler vintage of 2017 provided fruit of amazing quality and balance.

Colour: A deep cherry red.

Aroma: A gorgeously fragrant nose of Cassis, spice, and leafiness from the fruit. Attractive cigar box and charry French oak characters add to the bouquet.

Palate: Concentrated and intense flavours of blue and black fruit. The most striking thing about this wine is the structure with bright acid and fine tannins from the Cabernet fruit balanced by judicious use of new and old French oak. Very long finish. Sensational.

Summary: One of our best releases of ‘The Hill Block’. If you are a lover of young Cabernet, it is a wine to enjoy now, but would definitely reward those with patience for 12–20 years. Perfectly accompanied by a rack of saltbush lamb… cooked medium-rare naturally.
