2001 “The Assemblage” Shiraz Mourvedre Grenache

'THE ASSEMBLAGE' S.M.G 2001

Though the smallest part of the blend, grenache's influence seems to grown with air, challenging the blackberry and tobacco smoke contributions from shiraz and mourvedre with its brighter, floral strawberry scent. In combination, the three varieties give a luscious richness, the flavors lasting and fresh, ready for spring lamb.

Joshua Greene - Wine & Spirits Magazine - Jan/Feb 2004

Full red. Wild aromas of berries, plum, prune, herbs and spices, with meaty, horsey and farmyard notes and a reductive quality. Developing leathery palate shows thick, exaggerated dehydrated fruit character framed by firm, astringent tannins. Rustic and savoury, with animal and farmyard notes carrying through to the end. A bit dry on the back, but offers pleasing short term drinking.
