PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2006

Deep purple; a voluminous bouquet of black fruit, spice and licorice; a medium- to full-bodied and rich palate, flooded with black fruit and spice flavour; great tannin and oak support. 95 points

PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2006

Uncomplicated and generous, this ripe, minty Clare Valley shiraz delivers genuine regional and varietal character. Its spicy, spirity presence of cassis, raspberries, redcurrants and dark plums has a meaty, raisined and bitumen-like aspect, while its sumptuous vanilla/mocha/chocolate oak helps smooth out its firmish, loose knit tannin..

PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2006

a full blooded, ripe, soft, Clare shiraz. The sweet fruit and earthy shiraz flavours work well with traditional winter stews.

PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2006

Rich, ripe and soft, this is a warm inviting wine of generous proportions. Blackberry and mulberry fruits abound, and there's little sign of harsh tannin to hold the palate in check. Sweet vanillin oak completes the picture in this crowd-pleasing wine. 5 Stars

The Clare valley can produce terrific shiraz. This has generosity, full flavour and is immediately approachable, yet has the structure and elegance to age in the short term. There's dark choral ate and mulberry characters, smooth texture and supple, ripe tannins. Delicious.

Shiraz can be a real charmer in the Clare Valley:  the fruit flavours get ripe without being heavy and hot with alcohol.  The Eastside shows this quality: ripe dark fruits, hints of chocolate and liquorice and some spice from oak.  Even over 14% alcohol there is balance and early charm and the palate is soft with a backbone of dusty tannins.  It's already drinking well but will gain from a couple of years cellaring.

PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2004

The 2004 Shiraz “Eastside” is purple in color with aromas of espresso, licorice, and blueberry. Mouth-filling yet elegant, this lengthy wine will evolve for several years and drink well through 2025.

91 points - The Wine Advocate - October 2007

Ruby-red. Intensely perfumed scents of bright raspberry, kirsch, rose and minerals. Precise and light-bodied, but with serious depth of flavor and fine-grained tannins. Crisp, clean and energetic on the long, juicy finish.

90 Points. Josh Raynolds - Tanzer's Wine Cellar, Sept/Oct 2007

….a pleasant medium- bodied palate with a mix of red and black fruits; fine tannins, gentle oak."

90 Points. James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2008

‘This wine now carries the word ‘Eastside’ on the label to indicate the area of the Clare from which the grapes were drawn. The Eastside has more power and complexity than the red blend. At the same time it is not a big shiraz, being more refined than the style generally associated with the grape in Australia. The fruit wins out over the oak, which is well in the background. Ripe plum and berry fruit is complemented by spice and some earthy characters”.

Mike Burnett – The Examiner, Launceston, August 2006

PIKES 'EASTSIDE' SHIRAZ 2003

“A complex wine with some pleasant earthy / gamey overtones to plum, blackberry and spice; good oak, fine tannins”

90 Points. James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2007

"Dark ruby. Vivid, floral aromas of red berries and minerals could pass for pinot. Lush, open and sweet, with an elegant touch and surprisingly light weight for the vintage; fruit-driven flavors of raspberry and wild strawberry. Remains juicy and fresh all the way through the long finish".

90 Points. Josh Raynolds - Tanzer's Wine Cellar, July 2006.

PIKES SHIRAZ 2002

"The nose is packed with sweet black fruits enlivened by pepper and spice. Soft and fleshy on the palate, the mix of bilberry, liquorice and black cherry is enriched by black truffle. Although soft and ripe on the palate there is a mid acidity that refreshes the fruit, giving a purity and ensuring great length".

96 Points - Derek Smedley, London Wine Trade Fair, May 2006.

GOLD MEDAL - INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE 2006.

GOLD MEDAL - CLARE VALLEY WINE SHOW 2004.

“The outstanding, dense ruby/purple-tinged 2002 Shiraz exhibits a sweet bouquet of licorice, black cherries, and cassis, followed by elegant, medium-bodied flavors, impressive depth and purity, and light to moderate tannin. It should evolve nicely for 4-5 years”.
90 Points. Robert Parker. The Wine Advocate, Issue 161.

"Terrific intensity in the long, cool 2002 vintage. Satsuma plum, liquorice and pepper are defining aromas and present in abundance with spice that builds in the glass. The palate delivers ripe, soft tannins, peppery shiraz flavour and good balance from start to finish. It has generous texture without rounding out and holds a sophisticated savoury thread".
Nick Stock. The Adelaide Review. December 2004.

“Concentrated, powerful black fruits; touches of earth and spice; long finish, lingering tannins.”
92 Points. James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2006.

PIKES SHIRAZ 2001

“Good medium red. Redcurrant, raspberry and spices on the high-toned nose. High-pitched flavors of red fruits and spices show an attractive juicy quality. Not at all an overripe style of Australian Shiraz. Finishes with sweet tannins and good length”.
89 Points. Stephen Tanzer – International Wine Cellar, July 2004.

“The pleasant although somewhat austere 2001 Shiraz exhibits earthy undertones in its medium-bodied, black currant, pepper, and old oak-scented and flavored personality”. It will age for 4-5 years.
86 Points. Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate, October 2004.
