PIKES SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON 2007
The Pikes are good blenders – they seem to understand synergy and balance as well as drinkability quite well. A touch of spice comes out of this one, then glorious musk exudes and ensues and abounds through, cascading layer upon layer then opening up for glorious tropical fruits to take charge, invigoratingly so and yet imparted with a soft smooth well roundness on the long lingering finish. Some peach melon as well as citrus characters mix along, making for an interesting white blend.
Paul Ippolito - Wine Rush - 24th March 2008
“Ripe fruit with a touch of honeysuckle fragrance to begin, this fresh summer blend is crisp and crunchy in the drinking, its blend veering towards straw bales and fresh apple flavours. Clean, cool and easy to understand.”
87 Points. Tony Love - Adelaide Advertiser - 21 November
“Riesling tends to cast a long shadow over other white varieties in the Clare Valley but they certainly know how to make it all up at Pikes. This has classic dry white written all over it, a mix of fruits and more savoury grassy herb aromas. The palate is full of flavour with Riesling-like restraint, crips and delicious ”
90 Points. Nick Stock WBM100 - October 2007
PIKES SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON 2005
“A clean but relatively subdued bouquet; springs into life on the palate with lemon zest fruit and a fresh finish”
92 Points. James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2007.
British Airways selected this wine for all long haul flights throughout 2005/06.
“Another Pike special, this time a disconcertingly classy SBS. It is long, very long for what is considered to be more of a junior style of wine in Australia. There is much more to this wine than meets the eye – the weight alone is impressive and I would expect it to hit the high notes mid 2006”.
Matthew Jukes. Tasting Australia, October 2005.
“A metallic, cut grass and straw nose throws to a ripe white nectarine palate with hints of petrol. Fine acidity lingers on a long finish”.
90 Points. Tyson Stelzer – Top 500 Wines 2005.
PIKES SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON 2004
“Altogether substantial, yet not phenolic; much more flavour and structure than most from the vintage; semillon component important.”
91 Points. James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion 2006.
“A softer, less green example of this popular style, with fresh lemon and herbal aromas, good fruit depth and balance. Soft and round, although it doesn’t lack any bite. Would go well with many vegetarian dishes”
