PIKES 'THE HILL BLOCK' CABERNET 2005

A stylish cabernet from the relatively cool Clare, with hints of eucalypt and bright blackberries and earthy blackcurrents, with undertones of chocolate spice and mineral.  It has a velvety texture and fine-grained tannis.  Delicious now and plenty to develop.

Australian red wines are a dime a dozen, but here's one with more finesse than most. It's a big, fruity red but thankfully devoid of too much oak. And it will age well, if you can resist drinking it now.

Wine of the Week. Joelle Thomson - New Zealand Herald, September 2006.

GOLD MEDAL AND TROPHY @ Clare Valley Wine Show 2004.

“Rich, medium to full-bodied; lush blackcurrant, chocolate and cedar; ripe tannins, long finish; very good balance. Quality cork.”
94 Points. James Halliday, 2006 Wine Companion.

PIKES CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2001

“Scents of eucalyptus and mint provide a cooler tone to contrast with the dark, raisined flavors of fruit. The wine finishes fresh, with a grape skin flavor that lasts, ready for a grilled sirloin”.
88 Points. Joshua Green – WineTalk, February 2005.
