2016 ‘Homage’ Cabernet Malbec bottle
Shy at first but aromas of crème de cassis, mulberry and crushed violets emerge after little time in the glass – as does some lovely cedary oak.
Lovely medium bodied palate displaying attractive “creamy” blackcurrant fruit, fine tannins and well balanced acidity. Just a hint of the classy French oak also perceptible.
Malbec has been blended with Cabernet well before Merlot was even heard of in Clare – the wines made by Stanley Leasingham, Wendouree and Jim Barry are legendary. It is easy to see why the rich mulberry characters of Malbec are well suited to the more austere Cabernet wines. Keep for 5-8 years. Perfect with roast lamb.
